The contrabass player, arranger and composer Joel Moncorvo, started his musical studies quite early. Started his first musical lessons in 1978, with only seven years old, participating of choralles and musical workshops at São José College, in Salvador. His first master was professor Jorge Silva, that discovered Joel’s aptitude for the low. The great influence of the musician became from his family. His father, João, supported, financed and stimulated of all the possible forms. His mother, the musician Elza, teacher of classic piano, beyond stimulating, instruct him for the musical life.

Reorded his first vinyl record, “Apelo à Igualdade”, in 1991, by Continental Chanceller Recorder. Worked as sideman (contracted musician) during several consecutives years, following the more varied artists and singers of diferent styles. Recorded Largando Poeira CD, with the rock band Dimy Ruffo, was vocalist and bass player of Kaddish – Death Metal band and participate of the project of instrumental music with the american Jazz group – Bass and Drum.

In 1992, estabilished SLOW, his Rock Heavy Fusion band, an early dreamed project, with wich launched in 2006, by Maniac Records, his Debut Album – Killer Mermaid.

Giving continuity to his works with groups, beyond SLOW, started to integrate in the end of 2005 as efective member of Ungodly, when recorded and launched by Dynamo Brazilie Records, the Debut album, self intitled.

Musician that becomes conquering respect and admiration in the contrabass players scene, Joel was detached in the mainly specialized brasilian magazines, as Cover Baixo, Rock Brigade and Roadie Crew. Moreover, participated of several advertising programs in TV of the companies that patrocinate him. In 2006 was elected the best national bass player in a research realized by Novo Metal website to elect the bests in 2005. In recognize to his musical work, Crafter (contrabasses) company, made question to associate the musician Joel Moncorvo to its endorses line up.

Joel developed in the Centro de Atendimento ao Surdo (Center of the deaf attendance), in Salvador, the research “O Contrabaixo e a Criança Surda” (The Contrabass and the deaf child), with which studied the possibilities as how the contrabass can help children with deaf carriers in the developement of their corporal/auditory sensitivity, during 3 years and 3 months.

He is launching his intrumental CD “Muito Além do Som” (much beyond the sound), by Dynamo Brasilie Records, beyond giving individual and group contrabas lessons, realizing also workshops and workshows. The musician realize, yet, several contrabass clinics for several websites, and promote and participate of several debates about the instrument.

Joel Moncorvo has a long way in the low world. There are 29 years dedicated to contrabass, in wich he passed for innumerable bands, visited a series of stiles and acumulated suficient knowledgement to dedicate himself, today, exclusively to his instrument. In all the presentations, what is splicit in the musician is the pleasure and the satisfaction in playing. His preferences are Erudite Music, Jazz, Fusion, Samba, Funk, Progressive Rock, Prog Metal, Heavy Metal, arriving at Extreme Metal.
